Dr. Shalini Arya's inspirational journey from growing up in slums of India to becoming a scientist

I read a truly inspiring story in AAAS magazine about Dr. Shalini Arya who is currently an Assistant Professor in Food Technology at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.

Dr. Arya grew up in poverty. Her father was a laborer and they lived in slums. Her father was open-minded as he allowed her to go to school to study. She went hungry to school many times and was malnourished. She also survived without any basic resources such lamps in the house. Eventually due to sheer perseverance and encouragement from her family she was able to become a scientist. She wrote her story to encourage everyone to pursue their dreams even in the face of obstacles.

You can read her story published in AAAS magazine here.
